The world's most celebrated porridge competition, held in the tiny Scottish village of Carrbridge since 1994. Contestants compete to make the finest traditional Scottish porridge — using only pinhead oatmeal, water, and salt. No additions allowed in the main category. A spurtle (a wooden porridge-stirring stick) is the trophy.

How to enter

Register at worldporridgechampionship.com before the September deadline. Open to amateur and professional cooks worldwide. Traditional category: oatmeal, water, salt only. Specialty category allows creative additions.

Each team has 45 minutes to prepare a complete breakfast service for 8 judges. Teams are scored on authenticity, execution, creativity in plating, and the story behind the dishes.

How to enter

Nations enter via their national culinary federation. Individual chefs can apply to represent their country by submitting a portfolio through the official website. Applications open in January each year.

English Breakfast Championship

Run by the British Egg Industry Council, this championship crowns the best Full English breakfast in Britain. Cafés, diners, and hotels compete across categories: Independent Café, Hotel, and at-Home Cook. Judges evaluate the quality of every component — bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, and toast — with particular attention to the egg preparation.

How to enter

Enter via the British Egg Industry Council website during the annual registration window (January–March). Open to any UK food service establishment or amateur home cook. Entry requires submitting a photo of your full English along with a brief description of your method.

The World Cook is an international culinary competition for professional chefs that includes a dedicated breakfast and brunch category judged on technique, presentation, and the cultural authenticity of the dish. Regional heats are held across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, with national finalists competing in a grand finale. The breakfast round challenges chefs to produce a complete morning service — from pastry to egg dish to drink — within a set time, using only locally sourced ingredients.

How to enter

Professional chefs apply through their national culinary association. The competition is open to chefs working in a licensed food service establishment.
