Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between rolled oats and quick oats?
- Rolled oats are steamed and pressed thicker, so they keep their shape and give you a proper chew. Quick oats are cut finer and go mushy fast. For most recipes here, thick rolled oats are the better call.
- Can I make muesli with these oats?
- Yes. Bob's Red Mill Extra Thick Rolled Oats are the base we use for muesli. Mix with nuts, dried fruit, and a splash of milk the night before. No cooking needed.
- How do I cook buckwheat groats?
- Rinse, then toast them dry in a pan for 2 to 3 minutes before adding water. Simmer 1 part groats to 2 parts water for about 15 minutes. Toasting first brings out the nutty flavour significantly.
- Which grain should I start with if I'm new to this?
- The Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats. Forgiving, fast, and versatile. Once you're comfortable there, the 10-Grain Hot Cereal adds complexity without changing the routine much.
